Diesel Turbochargers and Diesel Fuel Injectors

What is a Diesel Turbocharger?

A diesel turbocharger consists of a compressor wheel and exhaust gas turbine wheel coupled together by a solid shaft and that is used to boost the intake air pressure of an internal combustion engine. The exhaust gas turbine extracts energy from the exhaust gas and uses it to drive the compressor and overcome friction.

A turbocharger is critical to the power output and efficiency of a diesel engine. It is the job of the turbocharger to compress more air flowing into the engine’s cylinder. When air is compressed the oxygen molecules are packed closer together.

What is a Diesel Fuel Injector?

Diesel fuel injectors are electric components that deliver fuel via a spray directly into the intake manifold in front of the intake valve in a diesel engine.

How Often Should You Replace Diesel Fuel Injectors?

Diesel fuel injectors will need to be replaced between 150,000 to 250,000 miles. For the best performance, they should be inspected by a professional every 50,000 miles.
